Angel One Review 2026 — Is It the Best Platform to Start Investing in India?

This Angel One review comes from someone who actually uses the platform.

When I first wrote about investing on Building Dhan — specifically in How to Start Investing in India — I mentioned Angel One as one of the platforms worth considering. Several readers wrote back asking the same question:

“But Madhu — is Angel One actually good? Should I open an account there?”

I realised I had recommended it without giving you the complete picture. So this Angel One review is my attempt to fix that — covering everything I know about the platform so you can make an informed decision.

With that said — my honest assessment follows.

What Is Angel One?

Angel One is one of India’s oldest stockbrokers — established in 1987, which means it has been operating for nearly four decades. It was originally known as Angel Broking and rebranded to Angel One a few years ago as part of a digital transformation.

With over 75 lakh active clients and presence across 1,800+ cities — it is one of the largest retail brokers in India. It is listed on BSE and NSE — meaning it is a publicly accountable company regulated by SEBI.

For a beginner choosing a platform to start their investment journey — these credentials matter. You are trusting this platform with your money. Knowing it has 37 years of operating history and is publicly listed provides genuine comfort.

Angel One Review — The Charges (Explained Simply)

This is where most Angel One reviews get confusing — so let me break this down as simply as possible.

Opening your account: Completely free. ₹0.

Year 1 of demat account: Completely free. ₹0.

From Year 2 onwards — demat AMC: ₹240 per year plus GST. This is charged quarterly — ₹60 plus GST per quarter — after your first trade each quarter.

The most important charge for Building Dhan readers:

If you buy stocks and hold them for the long term — the brokerage is zero. Free. Nothing.

If you invest in mutual funds — the brokerage is zero. Free. Nothing.

The only brokerage Angel One charges is ₹20 per order for intraday trading, F&O, and commodity trading — none of which I recommend for beginners anyway.

For someone following the Building Dhan approach — buying and holding index funds and stocks for the long term — the platform is essentially free to use beyond Year 1’s ₹240 annual fee.

New user benefit: Angel One gives new users a ₹500 brokerage discount for the first 30 days. This means you can explore the platform and make your first investments without any brokerage cost at all during your first month.

Angel One Review — What You Can Invest In

One thing I genuinely appreciate about Angel One is that it covers everything in one place.

Mutual Funds — with zero brokerage:
This is what most Building Dhan readers will use first. All major AMCs are available — HDFC, SBI, Mirae Asset, Axis, Nippon India and more. You can set up SIPs, switch funds, and track your portfolio all within the app. The fund selection is comprehensive and the SIP setup process is straightforward.

Stocks:
If you eventually want to invest in individual companies — Angel One supports equity delivery with zero brokerage. Once you have built comfort with mutual funds — stocks become a natural next step on the same platform.

Gold ETFs:
As I covered in Gold Investment in India — Gold ETFs are the most cost-efficient way to add gold to your portfolio. Angel One supports Gold ETF investing directly through the platform.

NPS:
The National Pension System — which I covered in detail in EPF vs PPF vs NPS India — is also available through Angel One. Managing your NPS alongside your other investments in one dashboard is genuinely convenient.

IPOs:
Apply for IPOs directly through the Angel One app — no separate process needed.

ETFs, Bonds, US Stocks:
All available for when you are ready to explore beyond basics.

The App — My Honest Experience

The Angel One mobile app is well-designed and regularly updated.

When I first opened the app — I will be honest — it felt slightly overwhelming. There are many sections, many features, many numbers. For someone brand new to investing it can feel like too much information at once.

But after a few days of using it — the layout starts making sense. The portfolio section is clean. The mutual fund section is well-organised. Setting up a SIP takes about five minutes once you know where to look.

The app includes something called the ARQ system — an AI-powered tool that scores stocks and mutual funds on a scale of 0 to 100 based on various parameters. I find it useful as a starting point for research — but I would never make an investment decision based solely on an ARQ score. Use it as one input, not the only input.

The web platform is available for those who prefer investing from a desktop — and an advanced terminal called Angel SpeedPro exists for active traders, though beginners do not need it.

Angel One Review — What I Like

The 37-year track record:
In the world of investing — trust is everything. An app or platform that existed only five years ago carries a different risk profile from one that has been operating since 1987. Angel One’s longevity is genuinely reassuring.

Zero cost for long-term investors:
If you buy and hold — you pay nothing for brokerage. This aligns perfectly with the Building Dhan approach of investing for the long term rather than trading frequently.

Everything in one place:
Stocks, mutual funds, Gold ETFs, NPS, IPOs — all in one login. As your investment knowledge grows — you do not need to open new accounts elsewhere.

Physical branch network:
If you ever have a complex query that cannot be resolved through the app — 1,800+ cities have Angel One presence. Knowing in-person help is available reduces anxiety for new investors.

Regulated and publicly listed:
SEBI registered. Listed on BSE and NSE. Your investments are held in CDSL’s depository — not with Angel One. Even if Angel One faced difficulties — your investments are protected in the depository.

Angel One Review — What I Don’t Like

The demat AMC from Year 2:
₹240 per year is not a large amount. But if you are only investing in mutual funds — you technically do not need a demat account at all. Platforms like Paytm Money offer mutual fund investing without requiring a demat account — meaning zero AMC. If mutual funds are your only goal — factor this into your decision.

Account closure requires offline process:
You cannot close your Angel One account online. You must visit a branch or submit a signed physical form. In 2026 — this feels like an unnecessary inconvenience and is something I genuinely wish were different.

Can feel overwhelming at first:
The sheer number of features, segments, and tools can feel like too much for someone opening their first investment account. If you want the absolute simplest experience — a more focused app might suit you better in the very beginning.

Customer support during peak hours:
With 75+ lakh active clients — support wait times can be longer during market hours. The in-branch alternative helps — but digital-only resolution is not always quick.

Angel One vs Paytm Money — Honest Comparison

Since I recommend both platforms on Building Dhan — here is the honest side by side:

FactorAngel OnePaytm Money

Mutual fund brokerageFree Free
Demat account neededYesNo (for MF only)

My honest recommendation:

If your goal right now is only to start a mutual fund SIP — Paytm Money is simpler and avoids the Year 2 demat AMC entirely.

If you want one platform that grows with you — covering stocks, ETFs, NPS and mutual funds as your investment knowledge expands — Angel One is the stronger long-term choice.

My Final Verdict

This Angel One review concludes with a clear honest answer.

For most Building Dhan readers who want to start investing — Angel One is a solid, trustworthy platform backed by nearly four decades of operating history.

The zero brokerage on equity delivery and mutual funds makes it cost-effective for long-term investors. The comprehensive product range means you will not outgrow it as your financial knowledge grows. And the regulatory credibility — SEBI registered, publicly listed, CDSL depository — means your money is as safe as any regulated investment platform in India can be.

It is not perfect. The demat AMC from Year 2 adds a small annual cost. The app can feel overwhelming initially. Account closure is unnecessarily offline.

But for the comprehensive investor who wants stocks, mutual funds, ETFs and NPS in one place — this Angel One review confidently recommends it.

Start with a simple Nifty 50 Index Fund SIP — as I covered in Best Mutual Funds for Beginners in India. Let the platform grow with you.
